Veterans Day Parade When: Nov. 5 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Where: Downtown Macon A celebration of Macon's veterans put on by the Cherry Blossom Festival will be a lively event. To honor our heroes, there will be patriotic-themed floats, military units, marching bands, and more. The parade will begin at the intersection of MLK Jr. Blvd and Cherry St. and continue down Cherry St., Second St., and Mulberry St. before ending at MLK Jr. Blvd. Veterans Day Golf Tournament When: Nov. 6 from noon to 6 p.m. Where: River North Country Club The first-ever Veterans Day Golf Tournament hosted at River North Country Club will feature General Robert and Hope McMahon as hosts. Part of the tournament's proceeds will go to Macon VA Clinic's "Post General Fund," which aids veterans in need of food, clothing, transportation, and other essentials. You can sign up as a single player or as a team of four players to participate. 23rd Annual Veterans Celebration and Col. Allen Carr Memorial 5K Race When: Nov. 11 9 a.m. 5K race and fun run 11 a.m. Veterans Program Where: Knox Civic Center in Gray Gray's 5th annual Veterans Celebration 5K and one-mile fun run honors all who served and are serving. This race is part of a Veterans Day celebration, including a parade with a procession of veterans and a presentation of colors by the Jones County JROTC, classic car show, food, music, Friends of the Library book sale, and more. Fort Hawkins Flag Retirement Ceremony When: Nov. 11 from 4-5 p.m. Where: Fort Hawkins This event is open to everyone– whether you would like to retire a tattered flag or not. Enjoy the free event at Fort Hawkins, one of Macon's historical sites. Every day is a good day to celebrate our courageous veterans. Still, the celebrations surrounding Veteran's Day on Nov. 11 present a powerful opportunity to say thank you to our veterans as an entire community in heartfelt unison.
