In September, Knight Foundation Board
of Trustees convened in Macon for the
first time since 2014. $14M in new Knight
Foundation funding to support local projects
was announced. Mayor Lester Miller presented
a key to the City of Macon to retiring Knight
Foundation President Alberto Ibargüen. Beverly
Knight Olson's retirement after 37 years of
service on the Knight Board was celebrated
as Charles Olson was elected to the Board.
Wesleyan College opened the Leadership
Lab in downtown Macon this September,
thanks to a $1 million investment by Knight
Foundation, Peyton Anderson Foundation, and
Community Foundation of Central Georgia. The
Lab will offer student leadership development
and women-focused community programming
alongside paid internships for Wesleyan
students to work at Bibb County nonprofit
organizations. On Labor Day weekend, 19 John
Drew Smith Tennis Center players traveled to
New York to enjoy two days at the US Open.
