Díana Thompson-Brewer, soprano Christopher Cooley, piano Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. Lyric coloratura soprano, Díana Thompson-Brewer returns to the Mercer University School of Music to perform at first sight, a song cycle that chronicles the life of a woman through the lens of what it means to love a black man in America. The song cycle will be paired with Robert Schumann's Frauenliebe und Leben. Thompson-Brewer is joined by pianist Christopher Cooley, composer of at first sight. Bobby Hall, guitar Friday, Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m. Bobby Hall has been playing the guitar for over 30 years and teaches in Macon. As a Townsend alumnus trained in classical guitar, Hall has over two decades of experience. His compositions have been performed by groups such as the Karkov Guitar Quartet from Ukraine and the Macon Guitar Quartet. He performs several genres of music, including classical, jazz, rock, blues, country, and more. Alvin Blount, organ Friday, Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Newton Chapel Mercer Alumnus Alvin R. Blount is a newly-appointed Reference and Instruction Librarian at Georgia State University. He holds additional degrees from Tuskegee University and the University of Tennessee. He has served as organist/ choirmaster at St. Francis Episcopal Church, Macon, and St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, Augusta. At St. Mary's, he conducted his choir on tours to Ireland and Italy where they sang on the Feast of Christ the King celebrated by Pope John Paul II. Mr. Blount will play works by Florence Price, C.M. Widor, Marianne Kim, and Calvin Taylor. Ryan Fogg, piano Friday, Mar. 15 at 7:30 p.m. Pianist Ryan Fogg has been described as "brilliant, with a high level of polish, impressive technical command, musical understanding and sensitivity." Originally from Houston, Texas, Dr. Fogg holds degrees in piano performance from The University of Texas at Austin, The University of Houston, and East Texas Baptist University. He currently holds the position of Professor of Music and Director of Keyboard Studies at Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee. He has presented solo recitals around the U.S. and he is an avid chamber musician, collaborative pianist, and concerto soloist.
