e talk about putting Macon on the map. I have always envisioned that to mean we are making ourselves known for people to notice us, here in the heart of Georgia. But it seems more and more, Macon's music reaches deep and wide. Just this year, we're at Sundance Film Festival, on national TV and on Broadway, and in Rome, Italy. Our joyful noise resounds in classrooms, bars, bedroom studios, and on city streets; at church, Guap Records, and Mercer Music at Capricorn. We're receiving recognition via Emmy awards. We're finding affirmation through inclusive, diverse audiences and visitors. We're building next-level experiences in the creation of a 12,000-seat live performance venue on the Eisenhower corridor and a downtown music education, outreach, and performance hub that continues the legacy of Otis Redding. For over a century, we've been producing paradigm-shi ing pioneers in soul music, southern rock, rock'n'roll, alt-rock, hip-hop, country, chillwave, and classical. Our measure is determined by how well we nurture our talent. Our melody is found in how we move to our own beat. Macon's music is the great connector that keeps us eclectic, accepting, and healing. Our music is the salve for our soul. That's all the reason for celebration we need. Susannah C. W Editor's Letter "I THINK THERE'S SOMETHING SCRAPPY ABOUT MACON, I DO. I THINK ABOUT THE MUSIC ARTISTS WHO CAME OUT OF MACON, AND THERE'S JUST SOMETHING SUPER STEADFAST AND DETERMINED AND TRUE AND SCRAPPY ABOUT ARTISTS LIKE OTIS REDDING, OR MAYBE THE ALLMAN BROTHERS, OR LITTLE RICHARD – THIS ORIGINALITY AND AN ATTITUDE OF 'I'M GOING TO MAKE IT HAPPEN, AND I'M GOING TO STAY TRUE TO MYSELF AND MY SOUND, MY PERSON, AND MY ROOTS.' AND YOU JUST NEVER FORGET THAT MACON'S WHERE YOU'RE FROM." — SASHA HUTCHINGS , ACTOR, DANCER, AND PRODUCER 12 maconmagazine.com | JUNE/JULY 2023
