106 maconmagazine.com | DECEMBER/JANUARY 2023 SPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION 2023 Live We FIRST CHOICE PRIMARY CARE KATHERINE MCLEOD | CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER 400 POPLAR ST., MACON (478) 787-4266 | FCPCGA.ORG WHAT IS THE MISSION OF YOUR BUSINESS? To improve the health of the medically underserved of Central Georgia. HOW DOES YOUR BUSINESS SERVE OUR COMMUNITY WITH INCLUSIVITY IN MIND? Addressing health disparities is at the core of our work. Because we offer care to anyone, about a third of our patients have no insurance. Those patients receive the same level of care and respect as the next patient with good commercial insurance. HOW DOES YOUR BUSINESS IMPROVE LIVES? We hope to give patients more than just good healthcare. We want to give them the tools and information to improve their health and their life. That might be access to affordable medication, behavioral health counseling, or connecting them to specialists. WHAT IS A MYTH THAT YOU WISH PEOPLE WOULD GET OVER? WHAT IS THE ANTIDOTE? The myth is that we only see people without insurance, and that we compete with the Macon Volunteer Clinic. Not true! Anyone can be a patient at First Choice, and we have a long history of cooperation with the Volunteer Clinic. WHAT ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS MAKES YOU PROUD? Our patients have responded well to our new building on Poplar Street. Patients feel valued when they are being treated in a beautiful building. WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN TO HELP OUR COMMUNITY LIVE HAPPIER AND HEALTHIER LIVES? We need to cultivate hope. Hope that things can change for the better for each and every person in our community.
