SHOP LOCAL GUIDE: Macon Music edition BY RACHELLE WILSON PHOTOGRAPHY BY MARIAH GANDY WHEN IT COMES TO MACON MUSIC PRIDE, there is no shortage of places to get your history fix, album refresh or swag update. Macon's soul runs deep, and there are countless opportunities to expand your knowledge (and music library) of the legends whose songs happily haunt us. Visit Macon has plenty of resources for locals and tourists alike who wish to explore sights significant to past and present musical influences. They can also connect you to the Macon Music Trail and guided music tours led by Rock Candy Tours. If group tours are not your thing, but you're curious to visit the famed spots (like the restaurant where Gregg Allman proposed to pop star Cher), they've partnered with Historic Macon Foundation to develop a brochure of Macon's music history. Though you'll miss the folklore element, the facts and addresses are all there for your self-guided pleasure. Many of the locations also have music plaques on their facades, enriching even a simple walk around downtown with a bit of Macon's music history. Macon's music scene is also overflowing with museums and historical sites of every sort. Whether it be picking up some musician-inspired art from Gallery West or merch from the Otis Redding Foundation, popping into H&H for a biscuit, visiting Little Richard's house for a tour or catching a show at Grant's Lounge, Downtown Macon itself is crawling with ways to celebrate the soul of our musicians. What's unique is that many of these historic places double for hosting special events. My rehearsal dinner was held at Capricorn Studios and Museum, and the interactive tours were a hit! Next time you have visitors or just need a staycation, Hotel Forty Five celebrates our music history in full force. And might I recommend sipping on a Blue Sky '72 at Hightales Rooftop Bar either way? To round us out, be sure to visit Fresh Produce Records. They feature a Macon vinyl selection that will surprise and delight you. 1.
