WHAT IS YOUR MISSION, AND HAS IT
CHANGED BECAUSE OF COVID-19?
The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters is
to create and support one-to-one mentor-
ing relationships that ignite the power and
promise of youth. Our mission is more criti-
cal now than ever! Many of our kids already
face adversity and have experienced trauma
or violence. The pandemic exasperated their
stress and has taken an even larger toll on
their mental health. We protect them against
harmful affects of adverse childhood expe-
riences, support their mental health and are
a lifeline to their families, connecting them
with essential services.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED
ABOUT FOR 2022?
We are really excited to be launching
the first Sports Buddies program in the
state this January! This specialty program
combines the effectiveness of our mento-
ring model with an innovative approach
featuring participatory and spectator sports
activities with the context of one-to-one
mentoring relationships.
WHAT IS A MYTH YOU WISH PEOPLE
WOULD GET OVER?
That it's too late to help a teen who has
gone down the wrong path. No matter their
age, a positive role model ignites the poten-
tial within each and every child.
