It is filled with excitement and activity. There are people hustling and bustling about. Our flourishing businesses include wonderful shops with unique merchandise, fabulous restaurants and terrific entertainment and night life. Guess what it's also filled with? Cherished, beloved pets that live downtown with their families. In fact, NewTown Macon estimates there are about 650 dogs living downtown in the numerous lo s. That's almost one dog in every lo . And I'm sure there are tons of fluffy kitties living there, too. Downtown Macon is just puurrrfect for pets and their parents. It couldn't be more welcoming with the many businesses that open their doors and spaces to these four-legged members of our downtown community. Scott Mitchell, owner of Travis Jean Emporium, not only welcomes his canine customers, he celebrates them. He has a great section of merchandise specifically dedicated to delight his doggie guests, like Sandersville's Southern Pawz products by Shannon Jones including dog biscuits, dog shampoo and dog paw wax. Once you leave Travis Jean, trot on over to Jeremy Smith's Per Diem Market. There you will find another pet friendly location that offers a myriad of pet accessories, quality pet food and more. One of the really cool items available at Per Diem is the PetFetch ID tag. It is a safe way for pet parents to anonymously key in their personal information for the pet to be returned in the unfortunate event he's separated from them. It prevents your personal information being continually visible on your pet's tag. Very clever. Then there's the high-end pet food at Per Diem. One of the most interesting lines is very healthy food by Dr. Marty. Stop by and ask Jeremy to tell you about it. When you get done shopping, grab a bite at one of the incredible restaurants with outdoor seating, like Piedmont Brewery and Kitchen. While you're dining outdoors at Piedmont, you can watch people and their pets enjoy Third Street Park. If you need a leash, pet parents can dash into Piedmont to purchase one from them as well. Ready for an a ernoon brew? Check out the great pet-friendly area at Fall Line Brewing Co. Leashed dogs can socialize in the secure, sunny setting. They even schedule special doggie events there, too. There is so much available to do in our beautiful downtown, and it makes it even more special when you know the welcome mat is rolled out for our furry family members. You just gotta love Macon.
