22 NEW BUSINESSES AND PROGRAMMING ARE BRINGING FAMILIES DOWNTOWN IF YOU CREATE IT, they will come. That's the hope, anyway, for those working to drive more families to downtown Macon as a destination for family-friendly activities. "Downtown is definitely growing. We want to let people know that families are able to come downtown and enjoy all it has to offer," said Felicia Howard, owner of Felicia's Cake Factory and Main Street Macon events committee chair. "Family entails more than just small kids. Teenagers, adults, spouses, cousins, even pets are part of your family." Along those lines, Main Street is working on a family-friendly scavenger hunt set for June's First Friday. It will include visits to businesses, lessons on history and fun activities. "We're trying to find different activities that all those age groups can enjoy and spend quality time together doing," she said. "If there's one thing that 2020 taught me and my family, it's the importance of spending quality time together and finding different ways to do that." Creating special programming for families is also a big part of the Macon Action Plan 2.0.
