"I show land, so I've taken them out with me, and I try to explain to them on an elementary school level what I'm doing out there, what I'm looking at walking the land and what the topography is," Jennifer said. By taking them to work, she got to teach them how to fly the drone, some principles of surveying, how not to get lost in the woods, how to use a GPS and how to use a compass. "ere's been a lot more hands-on than I would have ever thought of doing before the pandemic," Jennifer said. When she couldn't take the kids with her to work, Jennifer said it was difficult to balance her children's school schedule with her work schedule. In addition, because the family only had one laptop at first, she had to balance the Zoom schedules of her children, which could often be conflicting. "I mean you can't really go to the store and buy a laptop, so we had to wait on one that needed to be delivered, so there was that delay. Luckily, we had the money to be able to afford another laptop," Jennifer said. While Jennifer's family experienced many of the same drawbacks of other families with scheduling and online learning, she used the experience to educate her children on what she does during the time they would normally be in school. "I don't think they really had a clue when they went off to school. ey did their thing. ey had their lives. But I think they actually realized more what I was doing at home or what I was doing at my job and what all that entailed," Jennifer said.
