1. Howard High School senior Eunice Chon is a semifinalist for the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke and Gates Scholarship programs, and a regional finalist for the Coca-Cola Scholarship. Chon is also a QuestBridge College Prep Scholar, National Rural and Small Town Recognition Program Winner and National Advanced Placement Scholar who self-studied for five Advanced Placement exams last year. 2. Students at St. Joseph's Catholic School raised $1,225.90 for a California Catholic school destroyed by wildfires. 3. Mercer University junior Ivy Clarke is among 212 students who make up this year's cohort of Newman Civic Fellows. Campus Compact organizes the yearlong fellowship for its member institutions. Clarke, an English literature and creative writing double-major, is passionate about elevating underrepresented voices through the arts. 4. Bria Smith, a fourth-grade teacher at Bruce Elementary School, was recently selected to State Superintendent Richard Woods' Teacher Advisory Council. This group includes 50 teachers from across the state who will meet twice a year with the superintendent to discuss educational issues affecting the classroom. 5. Dr. Tanzy Kilcrease, the Bibb Schools' Chief of Staff, was honored with a 2021 Women in School Leadership Award sponsored by Horace Mann and AASA, The School Superintendents Association. Kilcrease was honored in the Central Office/Principal category. 6. Daylen Lomeli, a third-year student at Hutchings College and Career Academy, has been named Georgia's College and Career Academy Student of the Year.
