WHAT'S ON Philip Bryant, president & CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia Describe one of your typical days. We have seven clubs throughout Central Georgia that span four counties, so I am often on site or at my office downtown or somewhere on the road between them. A typical day can take me as far south as Candler County. We are also in the process of opening another club in our northern most service area of McDonough-Henry County, so that has been a big focus lately. What is your most reached for item? My Boys & Girls Club coffee mug! My day almost never begins without a couple or three cups of coffee. Nonprofit work can sometimes be very stressful, so a good cup of coffee can help get me through some very long days. Do you have any new programs coming up? We just launched a youth sports program in Bibb County at the Cal Ripken sports field on Anthony Road. Another new initiative is our Teen Pregnancy Prevention program. Our annual Youth of the Year & Hall of Fame Gala is coming up Jan. 21. This is our first year hosting the event virtually, which has afforded us the chance to have Stacey Abrams as our keynote speaker as well as remarks from Coach Kirby Smart. How can the community support your mission? When the community rallies behind us through volunteerism, consistent annual individual and corporate giving and event sponsorship support, we know that hope for the future of our youth is more than just wishful thinking. Another great way to support our mission is to engage with us online (Insta @boysandgirlsccg, FB @bgccga) and help spread awareness of the work we are doing. Our youth accomplish amazing things every day and it is worth sharing! I AM A FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY ALUM AND A FORMER SEMINOLE FOOTBALL PLAYER. The Seminole football clock was given to me as a work anniversary gift from a long-time friend. Go Noles! THESE SHELLS ARE FROM OUR ANNUAL CLAY SHOOT. We host an annual friendraiser at Meadows Gun Club each August. This event is all about bringing together our friends and supporters for a fun-filled day of sporting clays. 74 maconmagazine.com | DECEMBER/JANUARY 2021
