AC PUP WHAT TO DO IF YOU FIND A LOST PET WE'VE ALL BEEN THERE. You're driving down a busy street and you see a pet looking bewildered and in danger from the traffic. With your heart racing, you have a decision to make – ignore him or stop to help. No matter how scruffy or thin he may be, you must first consider that he could be a lost pet. Some pets have been missing for a long time and may look unkempt. Sadly, they're quickly categorized as "just a stray" – as if that diminishes their need for rescue. Next, get to a safe place and immediately call animal control (478- 621-6774) or the Sheriff's department after hours number (478-751-7500). Calling animal control is not like calling an ambulance. More often than not, they cannot respond to the scene immediately. In fact, if the local shelter is occupied to capacity and the pet doesn't pose a threat to public safety, they may not respond at all. If you're able to retrieve the pet while maintaining your own safety and without scaring the pet into traffic, please do so. I'm amazed at the number of people who keep pet treats, leashes LOCAL BUZZ Eat out to support Loaves and Fishes LOAVES AND FISHES MINISTRY is gearing up for its fourth annual Foodie Fundraiser on Nov. 5. The organization is grateful for the support of their Foodie Fundraiser participants throughout the years, but recognized that this year needed to be different. During the past several months, we have seen our community change drastically as we work to address challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, we have a unique opportunity to create and shape our community together. Instead of asking restaurants to contribute 10 percent of their earnings for the day, as we have in the past, Loaves and Fishes Ministry will invite the public to dine in or get takeout at our participating Foodie Fundraiser restaurants. Patrons will have an opportunity to donate to Loaves and Fishes while dining in or carrying out. This year our Foodie Fundraiser is focused on highlighting the local restaurants we know and love, while helping the needy families and individuals we serve every day in our community. We look forward to partnering with the public to support some of their favorite local restaurants in addition to supporting the work and mission of Loaves and Fishes Ministry.
