LOCAL BUZZ New public service campaign centered on illegal gun possession THE PEYTON ANDERSON FOUNDATION has created a public service campaign aimed at educating young people on the consequences of illegal gun possession. Presented in partnership with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Georgia and the Federal Defenders for the Middle District of Georgia Inc., the "Armed with Knowledge" video project depicts the story of Noah, a preteen youth facing life-altering decisions that lead to illegal firearm possession. Throughout the video, Noah an initial donation of $50,000. It was matched with generous support from the Knight Foundation to support downtown and Milledgeville businesses. Georgia Power also provided grant funding and the Griffith Family Foundation offered technical support. As a result, 70 black-owned businesses throughout Middle Georgia received grants of $500-$2,500 during this process. Businesses represented industries including art, beauty, childcare, retail, food and service. "This initiative to support black businesses will have a major impact on their remaining in business and continuing to provide the much-needed goods and services to our community," said Alex Habersham.
