Josh Rogers, president & CEO of NewTown Macon, credits Treadwell's work on the alleyways with creating a pedestrian network. "When it comes to downtown projects, she's our first phone call — the person we always want in the room, not merely for flowers and bushes, but for big picture plans for public spaces. She holds each team together and holds everyone to a high standard," Rogers says. Treadwell's design projects are like her children – she has no favorite, but admits to an enduring love of Coleman Hill. A popular sledding site in her youth during infrequent snow storms, her enhancements include a bandstand, terraced stage area, benches and power for large concerts and special events. Treadwell designed Coleman Hill's giant slide and Macon- Bibb's first roundabout, which fronts Tattnall Square Park. She takes particular pride in Daisy Park — an urban neighborhood space that's home to the "I Love Macon" sculpture where round- the-clock basketball and a splash pad co-exist. Historic Macon's preservation architect Shannon Fickling, Treadwell's friend for decades, says, "Wimberly has given life to downtown Macon. She's a master of site acquisition and zoning whose work is a game-changer." Treadwell's designs have transformed areas surrounding Navicent Health, including the Pine Street renovation, Damon King Plaza and Fountain and the Beverly Knight Olson Children's Hospital Plaza. Her work dots the landscape at all of Macon's colleges and several of her master plans are focal points in public spaces citywide. Current projects include downtown Macon's Signage Master Plan, Elm Street at Telfair Park and the Eisenhower Business Improvement District. The affable Treadwell has parlayed her landscape architecture degree into a wide-ranging career, toggling between public and private sector positions and projects. Her knowledge of architecture informs her creativity and her lack of ego, buoyed by enthusiasm for each venture, is abundantly clear. Known for her collaborative spirit with professionals of varied stripes, Treadwell is quick to credit others. "I've worked with great architects, engineers and other professionals and can't say I've done any project myself," she says. The former Junior League president has notched awards for the Alley Project from Georgia Cities and Historic Macon. A winner of NewTown Macon's Juanita Jordan Award, she's a Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia "Woman of Distinction." Few people in recent memory have more directly affected the Macon landscape than Treadwell. Her success is rooted in her sense of adventure, knack for skill-building and talent for capitalizing on unexpected opportunities, all of which have enabled her to stretch her creative wings in the city she loves, where she's been firmly planted for a lifetime.
