GET FIRED UP FOR GEORGIA'S LARGEST POTTERY SHOW Immerse yourself in Macon's famous muddy medium during Fired Works, Macon Arts Alliance's 15th annual exhibition and sale showcasing functional and decorative pottery. Sixty jury-selected potters from Georgia and the Southeast will bring over 10,000 ceramic pieces to Macon's beautifully renovated Round Building in Central City Park. New this year, selected pieces will be available to purchase online at maconarts.org/shop. Thursday, June 11, Macon Arts Alliance will open online sales at 5 pm for a virtual preview party and host a Facebook live event highlighting pieces by featured artist Holly Polich, as well as artists new to Fired Works and returning favorites. Tuesday, June 16 at 11 am, Mary Pinson (marypinson.com) will demonstrate how to use diverse pieces from the show to create beautiful floral design arrangements. The event is free and open to the public and will also be a Facebook live event. Finished works will be available for purchase. Fired Works promotes the rich history of pottery in Georgia and its connection to the Ocmulgee River region. The oldest piece of stamped pottery found in North America was discovered at the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park in 1933. Artisans have made pottery along the banks of the Ocmulgee River for thousands of years and Fired Works celebrates the artists who continue this tradition today. Fired Works is a program of Macon Arts Alliance, the designated arts agency for Macon-Bibb County. The 2020 event is presented by Georgia Farm Bureau and supported by numerous sponsors and com- munity partners. Proceeds from the show benefit the participat- ing artists, showcase Macon as a creative community, and help fund the many programs of Macon Arts Alliance whose mission is to foster support for the advancement of arts and culture in Central Georgia.
