THE MISSION OF MY BUSINESS: The
mission of my business is to create great space
and beautiful landscapes for my clients, both
commercial and residential. Surprising to many
clients, this may involve more hardscape than
plant material or grass. My personal mission
is to promote the profession of landscape
architecture, which is the design of outdoor areas
to create unique space with both social and
aesthetic outcomes.
THE MOST GRATIFYING PART OF MY JOB:
I have the opportunity to create fun spaces,
contemplative spaces and gathering spaces –
playgrounds, splash pads, outdoor classrooms,
music venues, fountains, overlooks, giant slides,
patios, courtyards and gardens. I have amazing
clients and a community that supports and values
the creation of great space.
I AM EXCITED ABOU T: Right now, there is a
growing sense of community throughout Macon.
There is a true sense of collaboration, team work,
cooperation, caring and partnership, a historic
coming together to create a better community.
HOW I DEFINE SUCCESS: Success for me
is when I see my work photographed, posted
and talked about by others who have no idea
I was involved. Once after completing the
Hummingbird patio a friend came up to me and
asked, "Have you seen the great patio behind
the Hummingbird?" Another was at a tailgate
when I told someone I was from Macon; a
student whips out his cell phone and shows me a
video of his friend going down the Coleman Hill
slide in a tux. All my projects involve partners,
clients, community outreach, funders, engineers,
architects and many more. I could not define
success without partners and collaboration.
I ADMIRE WOMEN WHO: Are young mothers
who make a choice to go to work and balance
arrangements for their children while they give
to their students, their patients, local businesses
and this Macon community.
