We had been together for 10 years prior to that. So, our relationship didn't change that much, but our relationship to the world changed pretty significantly, in that we were overwhelmed by the outpouring of love we felt that night and throughout the weeks and months leading up to our marriage. It changed the way I look at the world. Our glasses were overflowing with kind of an abundant love from this community. A lot of it did feel very community focused. It was something I don't think I could have ever imagined growing up – that I could be married, have a reception at Hay House with several hundred of my favorite people, with some extraordinary music. It was a really meaningful experience. Right before the election, Chris and I were like, 'Our lives are perfect. We're just so fortunate.' But it's been really difficult for me to recover from that election and find the enthusiasm for life that we had literally the weekend before. But, over the last four years, more good things have happened than in the last 40. The sense of optimism that I have about our local community is greater than ever. CHRIS: I agree. When I get depressed about our current political situation on a national level, looking at all the great stuff that's happening in Macon definitely kind of pulls me out of the funk that I am in these days. Like Carey said, I think it's exciting to watch things change and to wonder a year from now: 'What is it going to be like? What wonderful developments are going to be in downtown Macon?' CAREY: It's an exciting time locally, a fantastic time for us, and an uncertain time for our nation. – CHRIS & CAREY 438 Cherry Street 746-9485 macon macon Celebrating the good life & great stories magazine 9 6 M ACO N M AG A Z I N E.CO M
