MEANINGFUL COINCIDENCE Several years ago, Jessica Walden attended the groundbreaking ceremony at Capricorn Studios with her father, Alan, and her 2-year-old son, Walden. "A friend of ours came up to me as we started to tour the building and said, 'I just found this butterfly – can I put it on Walden?' " Amused by the question, Jessica agreed. Walden solemnly extended his arm, and the orange-and-black-winged butterfly found a perch and clung to it. "We walked all through the building, and that thing stayed put," Jessica says with a laugh. "He was so gentle with it." When it was time to leave, the butterfly showed no signs of letting go. Jessica asked her father for advice: "What do we do with this butterfly? Does it come home with us?" But before he had a chance to answer, the butterfly took flight and the three of them watched it gracefully glide away. Later that day, Jessica sent a picture she'd snapped of Walden with the butterfly to her cousin Amantha, Phil Walden's daughter. Amantha wrote back almost immediately to say that she'd always thought of butterflies as a sign of her father's presence. "I felt such peace in that moment that we'd done the right thing with Capricorn, that all the right players were in place," says Jessica. "I mean, the butterfly was orange and black – those are Mercer's colors. Corny, sure, but the feeling of reassurance was very real. And it's taken awhile, but in 2019, Phil Walden is about to have his biggest comeback yet. I mean, the Capricorn Revival show sold out in 10 minutes – I know that made him proud. Capricorn's still got it."
