An oak Victorian rocking chair, with elaborately turned
spindles, now sits in the family room in the Sparks
house. Originally it was used on the front porch of the
senator and his family.
Family tradition has it that Bacon enjoyed spending money and that as chair of the Senate Foreign Relations
Committee he visited many places and acquired many things. One of the things he bought was this French
rococo revival sofa that has a heavily carved crest featuring leaves, grapes and pomegranates.
