bits & pieces continued April Events at Hay House Hay House will be hosting two important cultural events in April. Both will be presented in the beautiful Music Room. Friday, April 12, at 6:30 p.m., Ian Gow, senior curator of the National Trust for Scotland, will lecture on, "A Scottish Duke's Treasure House:  Brodick Castle and its Collections." Gow's lecture will center on the architecture, social history and decorative arts of Brodick Castle on the Isle of Arran, a seat of the Duke of Hamilton's family, whose lives there in the 20th century constitute a story similar to the television series "Downton Abbey." Gow, a native of Edinburgh and graduate of Trinity College Cambridge, has served since 1998 as curator of the National Trust for Scotland, managing its collection of more than 50,000 paintings, sculptures, decorative arts and artifacts in 26 castles, palaces, country houses and other historic sites throughout Scotland. Gow is the author of three books including most recently, "Scotland's Lost Houses." His presentation will be followed by a reception with a distinctly Scottish flavor in celebration of the heritage of the Johnston family who built the house and of the Hay family who donated it to the Georgia Trust. On Sunday, April 28, at 3 p.m., The Robert McDuffie Center for Strings will present its final chamber ensemble concert of the 2012-2013 season. Student groups will perform continued on page 53 april/MAy 2013macon magazine I 47
