"In good landscape lighting, simpler is
better," said Guy. "Look for a focal point
rather than lighting too much … these
focal points could be water features,
beds of seasonal color, garden art or
simple paths."
Wallace also prefers halogen low-voltage
lighting over high voltage. It's cheaper
to operate but it has other advantages
as well. "High voltage tends to just wash
the house with light and blind whoever
walks out the front door, whereas
landscape lighting adds a subtle
accent to the home's existing features
and does not glare into windows like
high voltage does."
