bits & pieces The Perry Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the 25th Dogwood Festival April 13-14. The Dogwood Festival, which has traditionally been a two-day arts and crafts exhibit in downtown Perry, is expanding the festival to include a hot-air balloon rally and a DockDogs competition. The balloon rally is scheduled for April 13 at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and will feature 15 hot-air balloons offering tethered rides, an entertainment stage hosting live music by well-known Middle Georgia party band the Fabulous Boomers, a kid's zone offering $10 unlimited play and more. The gates will open to the public at 4 p.m. with a balloon glow scheduled for dusk. The event is $5 per person with children under 6 free. You're encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnics. Festival food will be available onsite. No alcohol or pets will be allowed. The DockDogs Competition is being held in conjunction with the arts and crafts festival in front of the New Perry Hotel on Main Street. For two days visitors will be treated to beautiful retrievers vying for points to enter the DockDogs national competition held in the fall each year. The event is free and fun for all ages. The traditional component of the Dogwood Festival will remain very much the same. The arts and crafts event brings thousands of people into historic downtown Perry. It showcases downtown Perry while featuring nearly 100 unique vendors. For more information or a full schedule of events, visit perrydogwoodfestival.com.
