A Night with Caroline Aiken Fired Works Preview Party At the Round Building in Central City Park April 12 from 6-9 p.m. $40 per person (478) 743-6940, FiredWorksMacon.com Featuring more than 6000 pieces of pottery for sale, Fired Works is the largest exhibit of functional and sculptural pottery in Georgia. For those eager to get their hands on the best pieces by these 70 artists, the Preview Party is a chance to beat the crowds and find the absolute best ceramics for sale. The Fired Works Preview Party features live music by Sterling Waits and the Cotton Avenue Hustlers, food, and fun. Enjoy this special chance to meet and mingle with many of the artists in the show. The event will be at the Round Building in Central City Park. At The 567 Center for Renewal April 12 at 8 p.m. $10 per person (478) 238-6051, the567.org Caroline Aiken will be performing with her trio at The 567 on April 12, 2013. Aiken is a prolific songwriter who has been making a career of music for 44 years. Her bluesy voice, masterful finger picking guitar style and hypnotic stage presence made her the artist of choice to open for such diverse music legends as Arlo Guthrie, Muddy Waters, Doc Watson, Bonnie Raitt, Randy Newman, Little Feat, Beach Boys, Richie Havens and many others. She also has influenced and mentored many young musicians during her career, including Shawn Mullins and the Indigo Girls. More recently, Aiken performed on NPR's nationally-syndicated radio show MOUNTAIN STAGE. Cash bar provided by Downtown Grill for this event. Magnolia Street Soap Box Derby presented by the InTown Neighborhood Association and College Hill Alliance at Washington Park April 14, Practice run and music at Noon, Race begins at 3 p.m. followed by Second Sunday in the Park Watch teams compete for bragging rights, glory, and swag as they race down Magnolia Street in all kinds of crazy race cars. Fans line the streets cheering on their favorites. This great free family event highlights the positive community spirit of Macon. The race coincides with College Hill's Second Sunday concert event at Washington Park in the beautiful and historic InTown Macon neighborhood.
