homes & gardens As an added bonus, a few of our expert decorators have design tips to share with Macon Magazine readers. Andrea Crawford: Mix it up! Don't be afraid to mix old and new, expensive and inexpensive items in the same space. Utilize family heirlooms and items that tell stories of your travels and hobbies. Your home should reflect who you are and what you love! Shauna Davis: When using just two different colors in a room, try to use them in unequal amounts. I like the 80/20 rule - letting one be dominant and using the other as an accent color Whitney DePalma and Corie Swan: A room can be completely designed around one inspirational piece. Select complementary fabrics, furnishings and finishes from the colors of the chosen piece.   Bert Maxwell IV: If you are not comfortable in the pieces of furniture you choose, then no matter how beautiful the fabric or design, you will not fully enjoy that space. Find comfort to go along with looks and you and your friends will gravitate toward the newly designed space. Katherine Walden: Be bold in selecting colors! Paint is the least expensive decorating tool you have at your disposal. Also, develop a plan before embarking on a decorating project. Make a floor plan, select colors and fabric ideas so that you are not impulsive in your purchases or refurbishing projects.  M 38 l Macon Magazine april/MAy 2013
