bits & pieces Farm to Table Benefit Dinner Community Health Works and The Moonhanger Group will host a Farm to Table Benefit Dinner on Monday, April 8, from 7-9 p.m. at The Armory Ballroom. The dinner will feature an elegant three-course menu prepared entirely with fresh, locally grown seasonal items harvested from the Mulberry Market. Tickets for the dinner are $50 and can be purchased through Community Health Works at www. chwg.org. Tickets will include cocktails, your choice of entrée and dessert. All proceeds will be benefit the Mulberry Market and CHW's Wholesome Wave program. As the manager for the Mulberry Market, CHW is committed to supporting sustainable, local agriculture as a way of improving the health of central Georgians by making higher quality, healthy, locally produced food available to all residents regardless of socio-economic factors. Through a partnership with Wholesome Wave Georgia, CHW has increased the market's capacity to offer a double-value coupon program for SNAP beneficiaries (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). The market accepts EBT cards and offers a matching dollar incentive for consumers to purchase fresh, healthy foods. In 2012, the market sold more $12,000 in EBT sales resulting in a match totaling more than $24,000. As a partner market for Wholesome Wave, CHW is responsible for providing this dollarfor-dollar match through progressive fundraising and promotion. This benefit dinner will help raise funds to enable the sustainment of this important community program. In addition to the health benefits of increasing access to affordable and nutritious foods, there is a significant economic impact to developing community connections to local agriculture. The Mulberry Market is a weekly farmers market that produces reciprocal benefits for community residents, independent businesses and local farmers and producers. Along with the Armory Ballroom, the Moonhanger Group owns the Rookery and Dovetail, two restaurants in downtown Macon. The Moonhanger Group is providing catering and event services for the benefit dinner. Community Health Works is a non-profit, community-based health organization that serves all of central Georgia. For more information, please contact Chief Executive Officer Fred Ammons at 478-254-5210 or fammons@chwg.org. The Mulberry Market is a producers-only outdoor community market that takes place weekly in front of the Grand Opera House on Mulberry Street from 4-7 p.m. The Community Health Works tent accepts credit, debit and EBT cards for market purchases. bits & pieces continued on page 47 Celebrating our 25th anniversary on August 1st.
