2010 Vina Ventisquero Carmenere
Reserva Colchagua Valley
87 points, International Wine Cellar
(Includes 15 percent syrah): Glass-staining
purple, smoke-accented aromas of black
and blue fruits and violet, with a peppery
topnote. Juicy and light on its feet, with a
seamless texture and good clarity to the
fresh blackberry and blueberry flavors.
Finishes slightly tart and spicy, with decent
length.
This cherry red carmenere with
burgundy notes showcases an intense,
alluring aroma, with a bouquet charged
with ripe fruits such as blueberries,
blackberries, red currant, strawberries
and cherries, enhanced with spicy notes
that blend harmoniously with touches of
chocolate, coffee and tobacco. The mouth
offers a rich structure, well balanced and
full-bodied, with fat, velvety tannins that
give it a full, round finish.
Food pairing: A great match for
semi-mature cheeses such as provolone
or cheeses with spices such as pepper,
also pairs with grilled meats such as lamb
or red meats seasoned with herbs such as
thyme, rosemary or sage. It also goes well
with spicy dishes such as Asian cuisine.
