The first was when he was named the 2019 Georgia Superintendent of the Year, and the second came upon his national recognition. The third occurred at the community celebration held in his honor, where, thanks to the generosity of dozens of donors, Jones said he was "blown away" with the announcement of the creation of an endowed scholarship fund at the Community Foundation of Central Georgia to be given yearly in his honor. Eligibility for the scholarship is based on Jones' guiding principles of leadership, scholarship and citizenship. "That's my value proposition for the district. If children go through the school system, they will leave as better leaders, scholars and citizens," Jones said. "I am proud that we are using the scholarship to help recognize students who reflect those attributes." The scholarship's first winner is Howard High School graduate Asher "Keely" Testa, about whom Jones said, "She's an excellent example of what the scholarship is going to lead to. I'm confident she will be a great leader and has a great future ahead of her, and I look forward to seeing what she's going to do." Keely plans to attend the University of Georgia and co-major in international business and marketing with a minor in Japanese. She said she was "shocked and honored" to receive the scholarship. r e p o rt to th e co m m u n it y 1 3 | e d U C AT i O n Bi County leadIng by exaMple dr. CurTIs Jones LeadershIP aWard Fund
