3 4 M A C O N M A G A Z I N E . C O M A P R I L / M AY 2 0 1 9 THE MISSION OF HISTORIC MACON: To revitalize communities by preserving architecture and sharing history. HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS? Success is more than just finishing a project. Success is watching something that was once dead come to life! This could mean seeing a historic house become a home again, or watching the stories and contributions of those in our past make an impact on the present. It is all about the way our work affects the people in our community. WE ADMIRE WOMEN WHO: Use their position to lift other women up. Ruth Hartley Mosley is a wonderful example of this. This Macon legend used her success to empower those around her. Her legacy continues to this day through the Ruth Hartley Mosley Memorial Women's Center. WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT RIGHT NOW IN MACON? We are very excited about the Napier Heights neighborhood going through the process to become a National Register Historic District. This designation will provide homeowners tax incentives to invest in preserving the historic properties in the neighborhood. YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED THAT: In addition to rehabilitating historic houses, Historic Macon also constructs new builds on empty lots that maintain the integrity of historic neighborhoods. We are proud to have a licensed contractor and registered architect on staff to lead our construction projects. WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT OUR WORK: We have loved watching Beall's Hill transform into a vibrant, inclusive, engaged part of the Macon community.
