This bell came
from a flea market.
If something big
happens, we ring
that bell.
When my wife and I
were in grad school,
in Savannah, and
they had just torn
down this building,
[we picked up] this
piece of tile.
My dad is an
architect, which is a
big reason why I got
into preservation. He
made buttons a long
time ago.
How a
Historic Macon
project works
We acquire historic houses,
buildings or vacant lots.
We work with our preservation
project manager, Shannon
Fickling, who is a licensed
architect. She puts together plans
for the house.
We work with our preservation
carpenter, Michael Phillips, who is
a licensed general contractor.
We do demolition to get a better
sense of the inside.
Meanwhile, we get construction
estimates, which our board
reviews and approves.
Then we start working on the
house; it usually takes us about
seven to eight months.
We put it up for sale, and move
to the next project!
