Mental health issues like depression, anxiety and bipolar have destructive effects on people's lives. Add in addiction to substances and behaviors, and we find many of our friends and family suffering. Mental health treatment works, and as people find their way to getting help, lives are changed. WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF ABOUT HOW YOU HELP PEOPLE? We advocate and are invested in each patient that comes in. How we treat may look different based on the patient's needs. We listen nonjudgmentally while we hold on to hope. WHAT CHANGES DO YOU SEE IN THE PEOPLE YOU SERVE? Our patients enter our program in near crisis mode. Through personal insight and development of new coping skills, their life experience begins to change. Group therapy is remarkable in the singular experience of feeling understood instead of alone. Education groups help patients develop new ways of thinking through and solving problems for themselves. In sobriety, families are healed. Panic and anxiety moderate and patients return to shopping, church and work. HOW DO YOU MEASURE SUCCESS? Some common themes we see in our patients' lives are isolation and a deep sense of shame. As patients work through our program, we hear them describing a return to a more balanced way of living. They return to hobbies and have energy for fun. They describe time with friends and family that previously was avoided. The miracles you may have been praying for are happening at Coliseum Center for Behavioral Health!
