The work of Historic Macon Foundation (HMF) not only provides a unique approach toward Macon's revitalization, but it also seeks to safeguard the history that makes Macon special. Through education programs, advocacy work and hands-on preservation projects, HMF is committed to a belief that buildings and neighborhoods matter because of the people – past and present – who tell their stories. Perhaps the most impressive thing about HMF is the way community members engage with the organization. This involvement is most evident in the months leading up to the foundation's annual fundraiser, the Flea Market Sale, happening Nov. 2-4. From top to bottom, the event relies on community involvement. Whether it's the Macon resident who donates a one-of-a-kind item to the organization, the volunteer who sorts and prices it, or the shopper who purchases it and gives it a new home, each step in the process is invaluable. In 2017, the Flea Market brought in more than $43,000 and was powered by more than 3,500 volunteer hours. Now in its 41st year, the Flea Market's enduring popularity shows just how much preservation can resonate on a personal level. In the same way that HMF gives a house a second chance to be a home by rehabbing forgotten, historic structures, the Flea Market gives donated items a second chance to make a home. Don't miss out on this fun opportunity to shop through some of the most unique treasures in town while also supporting this worthy community organization. – Rachelle Wilson L O C A L B U Z Z Thrift for a cause at HMF 's Flea Market Sale
