A Word from the Dean Mercer University Townsend School of Music | music.mercer.edu On behalf of the Townsend School of Music at Mercer University, I am pleased to welcome you to our 2018-19 Discover Townsend concert series. The School of Music is committed to presenting a plethora of musical opportunities for the Macon community and the Middle Georgia region. Through the years, we have had great community support for our recitals and concerts and I would anticipate that the 2018-19 season will continue in this direction. This year will feature an abundance of talent performing in the McCorkle Music Building's intimate Fickling Hall, the beautiful Bell House Jennings Salon, and the Grand Opera House. Among the many notable guest artists in this year's season include Stephen Cleobury, Kyung Sun Lee, Laura Strickling, Rita Sloan, Hsin-Yun Huang, Isabel Bayrakdarian, and a host of others that will broaden your musical experiences and energize and resonate with your spirit. A program that we are particularly eager to share with you is the Townsend Kaleidoscope Concert. This concert will feature a rapid-fire, whirlwind of performers and will showcase the many talented students and ensembles of the Townsend School of Music. You will be amazed at the diversity of talent as they provide a quick snapshot of music throughout Fickling Hall. Choices abound in this 2018-19 Season. The Fabian Series will explore the great masters of string music, a wide array of keyboard sounds will be heard in the Godey Series, ensemble concerts will feature chamber music, winds, brass, strings, percussion, and jazz, while the opera department will present "Guys and Dolls" as well an evening of operatic gems. There is something for everyone and we can't wait to share this season with you. I hope to see you as you Discover Townsend. C. David Keith, Dean Townsend School of Music
